new to Hair Farm!

Hi guys!
I'm new here!
so I was building a character, and when I get to hair, I start to look for a new solution than the old hair and fur modifier, and that leads me here. =)
after a long consideration, I decided to get hair farm. Played around with it, I absolutely love it!

here is what I am doing so far

obviously, still have a lot to learn, but it is an awesome plug-in!
I'll post any problem I have and I'm sure I can get a lot of helps here! :ok:

This is a nice start, I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.

I see that hair strands are getting a little too thin towards the tips. You can adjust this using the thickness curve of Hair Generate.

At the top part of the head I see that groups of hairs are going through each other. Hair mesh modeling should help you easily avoid such intersections.

yeah I'm currently using spline and making hair mesh with it, so I guess that's why it is intersecting each other.
I should try extrude from the head model/hair cap
but is there a way to sort of have the extrude mesh following the spline I already made just to save some time?

sorry for my beginner question =P

You can use the HairMesh Extrude modifier for this task. It produces a reasonable starting point. Then, you can click on "Convert to HairMesh Edit" and properly model your hair mesh as you wish.

This is now using extrude and hair mesh modeling and the thickness is also adjusted, hopefully looks a bit better:

a little progress update. =)

using a bit frizz and kink makes breaks the "flat" uniform look of the hair, which makes it looks much more natural to me, the curve adjustment for them are awesome! I'll fine tune the setting a bit more later~

I'm trying to use simulation for the hair that falls on the body to try to achieve realistic physics, I encountered some issues though, I'll post on the Hair Animation and Simulation group later. ;)

Good work! I think you could add some more volume on the sides. You would have to force hair to look like this.

Thanks guys!
so I add all the hairs I need for her, and start playing around with the Hair Sim, trying to have the hair sit nicely on the body.


played with it for quite a long time, I found out that it is absolutely crucial to tweak around with Period Curve :ugeek: to get the desirable result. I also use it with Hierarchical Deformation to let the hair really sink down and sitting on the surface.

after the simulation finish, I can add another HairMesh Edit Modifier to do some fine tuning :D

I still need to tweak it a bit more, since I am actually thinking about animating this character. Simulation is kind of hard to master, but definitely rewarding =)

Looks much better! You could work at the hair ends, and adding some more strands at the ends. Maybe add some curvative at the ends.

hi guys, it's been a while, been busy with other stuff
now finally get a chance to work on my model again.
First thing I do is to start the hair all over again.
here's what I have so far...


I've only worked on the front side of the head, still need to work on the back, but the styling is more about the front for me.

there are still some fine tuning to do, and I will add some loose strands around to make it looks more natural.
let me know if theres any suggestions and tips :)

I wanted to add some blue strands, since it's a sci-fi character, I thought might as well make the hair looks a bit different.

I find that using two Hair Generate modifier gives it a nice rich look to it.
I'll start adding some random lose strands all over to make it looks more natural, will also start working on eyebrow and eyelashes~
